1/Lt Bernhard R. Muldoon 71FS/1FG, claimed 1 Ju88 shared destroyed 17Dec42 Capt Bernhard B. (Bernhard H.?) Muldoon 48FS/1FG, claimed 1 FW 190damaged 21May43 and 1/Lt A. Peterson C/O 49PS/14PG 30Apr41-02May42? Col Armin Peterson C/O 78FG 07May42-01Jul43, KIA 01Jul43 Regards Andy Fletcher |
Re: Same Individuals?
Yes, I believe they are:
In Mullins' An Escort of P-38s [history of 1 FG], a roster of 71 FS/1 FG pilots on p. 168 includes Lt. Bernard Muldoon, and on p. 165, a victory list credits Lt. Bernard Muldoon with 0.5 confirmed credit (no date). On pp. 53-54, it is stated that Capt. Bernard Muldoon from the 71 FS was one of several experienced 1 FG pilots temporarily assigned to the 14 FG, where he was designated CO 48 FS/14 FG (not 1 FG as you indicate). Also, Capt. Muldoon is identified in a group photo (standing next to Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker !) on p. 54 of 1 FG pilots assigned to the 14 FG. There is no further mention of him in the book, but I think there was but one Lt./Capt. Bernard Muldoon in the 1 FG. In Eagles of Duxford [history of 78 FG], author Fry describes how some of the 78 FG's future pilots came to the group through several pre-war pursuit groups, including the 14 PG stationed at March Field in California. On p. 3, the book notes that by Jan 42, Lt. Arman Peterson was CO 49 PS/14 PG. On p. 5, it describes how the 14 FG was split in two in May 42, with the new half being designated the new 78 FG, and that Maj. Arman Peterson was assigned CO of the 78 FG. On p. 33, the mission of 1 Jul 43, during which Col. Arman Peterson was shot down, is described. Hope this helps you. |
Re: Same Individuals?
Hi fsbofk,
Thanks for the great info. 48FS/1FG was a typo on my part, as you correctly state I meant 48FS/14FG. Thanks again. Andy Fletcher |
Re: Same Individuals?
Another couple of candidates for being the same individual. Could anyone confirm these pilots are one and the same.
