Ju-52/3m g4e H4+AA W.Nr. 5055, 2./KGr.z.B.V. 4000

Hi all,

Someone would have some information about a Ju-52/3m g5e, H4+AA W.Nr. 5055 (tactical code P2D), 2./KGr.z.B.V. 400, in Lybia, 1942?

Crew? History of the a/c?

I assume that the KGr.z.B.V. 400 was subordinated to Luftflotte 2 in 1941-1942. This is correct?

Best regards,
Franklin

WNr.5055 was built by Allgemeine Transportanlagen-Gesellschaft Flzg.Werke, Leipzig, coded D-APYX, 1935.

Damaged 60% on 24.May 1941, Malemes. Coded H4+AA of L.L.G. 1, may have been Oberstltn. Gustav WILKE’s machine.

I do not know when it was written-off while with KGr.z.b.V. 400. As to the “P 2 D” coding on the rudder, this unit used "P" on the rudder as the Kommandeur was Major Pfister.

Hi Mr. Morrison. I think someone has misunderstood the records here.
W.Nr. 5055 was definately built by Junkers Flugzeug und Motorenwerke.
However, in May 1936 this plane, as D-APYX, was reported at ATG for repairs.
It was lost 24. August 1942 near Tobruk due to damaged engines.

Thanks for the correction. It's all on me - I mistook 'first flight' to be that, but it must instead be the test-pilot's (first) check flight following repair / modification.

And thanks for the 24.August 1942 detail, too.

Thanks a lot for your help, gentlemen.

Any chance to know what the crew at 24 August 1942?

And KGr.z.B.V. 400 was subordinated to Luftflotte 2 in 1941-1942?

Greetings,
Franklin

Definitely not. :D This Ju 52 was built in September 1934 by the "Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG". The Junkers Flugzeug- und -Motorenwerke AG was established only in mid 1936.

ATG didn't repair any aircraft. The Ju 52 was repaired by the Junkerswerft (FWL) at Leipzig-Mockau on the western edge of the Mockau airfield. ATG was on the northern edge. ATG was an independent company and part of the Flick Group. 5055 crashed in March 1935 the first time (60%), delivery at the Junkerswerft Leipzig in April, flights in September; again crashed in December 1935, again repaired by Junkerswerft, in July 1936 used by the Kommando der Fliegerschulen... an so on... This aircraft did not have an easy life.:D

See my articles on the Junkerswerft Leipzig in the German magazine Jet & Prop 6/12 and 1/13.

Thanks Peter

Goes some extra miles in explaining the German aircraft industry in the 1930s. Not the easiest of things to understand...

Cheers
