Missions to Novi Sad Yugoslavia 1/7 Sept 44

The attachments depicting 455th BG panoramic shots of targets
under intensive bombardment at Novi Sad Yugoslavia Sept 1 and
Sept 7 ,1944.

The 15th Air Force books at my end describing the 455th BG
Sept 1st mission as marshalling yards at Novi Sad and this of
Sept 7,1944 as " no major operations " ( 15th AF against the Axis )

Question can anyone identify the targets depicted on both attachments
the mission scores and any 15th AF losses if at all on Sept 7,1944.

The 304th Bomb Wing escorted by the 1st Fighter Group attacked Novi Sad on 6 September. No attacks on 7 September. Do you have the mission details for the 6th?

September 6

"At another marshalling yard, at Novi Sad, where flak was generally intense and accurate, 116 B-24s of the 304th Bomb Wing, escorted by twenty-five P-38s of the 1st Fighter Group, cut all main rail lines, destroyed a power house, and damaged warehouses, while also hitting an airfield and two factories.”

According to the database I have built of all B-17/B-24 missions in the MTO (for A History of the Mediterranean Air War), 454th, 455th and 456th BGs attacked Novi Sad on Sept 6, 1944. I do not show any heavy bomber missions on Sept 7.

Missions were flown to Novi Sad on Aug 7 (98th BG), Aug 30 (99th*, 301st, 463rd, 465th), Sept 1 (455th), Sept 5 (459th), Sept 6 (454th, 455th, 456th), Sept 18 (463rd*), and Sept 21 (450th*). All of these missions attacked the marshalling yard(s), except those marked with an *, which attacked railroad bridge(s). At this point I do not know what the 98th BG's target was on Aug 7.

Enjoy!

Frank.

The target of 98th BG on Aug 7, 1944 was Novi Sad oil facilities bombed by 25 Libs through slight but accurate flack .Under this attack the sidings were blocked while
20 tank cars were destroyed causing the transhipment to shed in the yards. Finally ,I confirm again that on Sept 7, 1944 and according 455BG records the mission to
Novi Sad was flown by this BG despite other contradictory reports.

There is no possibility that this could be a typo for 6 September? I hope you can nail this down because if you are right the United States Air Force will need to correct its records.

Larry

Thanks for your feedback. I have no way of knowing if 455 BG photo section
wrongly printed the date or USAF got a record error.According most of my books
455th did not fly any mission on Sept 7,44 .Take a look at the shot anyways.

Sept 1st was mission 107 this of 6,44 was mission 112 next mission was
on Sept 8 ,44.

I will ask Mr Graff anyways .

Best Regards

Frank,

I have excel files from Davis' book (Bombing European Axis powers). They contain dates, target, number of planes, but not what groups participated in attack.

I am planning to order some rolls from AFHRA, that contain NMRs on missions in Yugoslavia. I already have several rolls with reports from 15 AAF. Unfortunately, some reports are in bomb group archives, and it is difficult to find in what group are they.

Could data on what group participated in missions be on A6435 roll?
If not, how I could find them?
