MBR-2 shot down March 10,1943 Can anyone help me to determine which JG / pilot claimed an MBR-2 of the Black Sea Fleet affiliated to 18 OMRAE which took off on the night of March 12,1943 from Gelenjik flying to Bagerovo near Kerch , Azov Sea ( the date could also be 13.3.1943 according OBD) It came in contact at low altitude with the German naval fleet which at their turn opened fire at the MBR-2 confusing them with a torpedo aircraft . A German night fighter ME-110 intercepted the flying boat and shot it down near Arabat. Alex K |

Re: MBR-2 shot down March 10,1943 Nick and Theo Many thanks for your information. This was the crew of Kapitan Mitchugin shot down at night after they bombed Bagerovo airfield. Pilot was killed in the aircraft , the Navigator and gunner /RO bailed out , the Russian sources indicate that while the Navigator was captured by the Germans and spent rest of the war at Stalag Luft II Lizmmanstadt (Lodj) the gunner died in the icy waters . The Nav returned after a 3 months NKVD camp clearing at his original Sqd by Aug 1945 . The co pilot and technician 1st rank seems to have perished too along with rest of the crew . Pilot , Co Pilot , Nav were ranked Captain, it seems that there was an attempt to promote 3 of them to HSU title though this never happened. Pilot , CoP and Nav were Red Banner order recepients the gunner of red star. The gunner (Sgt ) was son of Moscowite art director. It seems that the MBR-2 was shot down on the night of 12/13 March 43 Please confirm Ofw.Josef Kociok shot this MBR-2 down, I can't locate the claim source BR Alex K PS: Theo sorry can't go through Pvt , tight up with other subjects must be done through here |
