Hello Dénes!

My idea: Oberleutnant Wilhelm Moritz, 6./JG 77

Any other ideas?

Herzliche Grüsse aus Oberschwaben,

Wolfgang

Dénes,

This is the a/c of Lt Ernst Busch, Gr N.O. of Stab I./JG3 taken in September, 1940. It just sold on eBay. Did you win it? This a/c was shot down at Fischer Farm, West Wickham, Kent, England, on 27.10.40, with Busch bailing out and becoming a P.O.W. This aircraft is the subject of one of our Color Profiles for the EoE Project. The "Moritz" cartoon figure painted on the fuselage was originally designed by a man named Busch, and it's possible that Ernst Busch was a relative or descendant. Some genealogy work here might answer this. Or since his name was also Busch, the pilot may have just chosen the insignia because the designer has the same family name, but was not related. Someone on this board may know this.

Hello,

Re: Busch/Moritz:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_and_Moritz.

There is well-known shot* of Busch's Me 109 over the Channel, accompanied by another aircraft of the T.O. Stab I./JG3. It was one of a series of stills taken from a 1940 propaganda film - very murky.

* One place you will find a shot of the aircraft, is in Armand van Ishoven's, Messerschmitt Aircraft Designer (Wren,1975), p.146.

Moritz it is! I did not make the connection, although I read out loud the story of these two pranksters to my children many times. Thanks, Larry and Col. Bruggy, for solving the issue.
I won only one of the three photos, as prices for the other ones went beyond my financial possibilities.

This is also valid for another book by A. v Ishoven, called simply Messerschmitt, published in 1973.
