Smolensk on June 25/26, June 27/28 1944
 

Hi all,

Can anyone provide information on the night air raid of Luftwaffe to Smolensk on June 25/26, June 27/28 1944. Whether there is documentation of the 6nd Luftflotte (unit, losses)?

Hi Oleg,

From the KTB of the S.K.L.: "In the night of 25 June 105 German bombers attacked the railway station at Smolensk. Good hits were observed."

III./K.G. 55 raided Smolensk railway station on both nights. Medium and heavy anti-aircraft fire and searchlights were encountered. Bombloads were one 1,000 kg and four 250 kg bombs each (or in some cases, one 500 kg and four 250 kg bombs). One crew reported the presence of an enemy night fighter on the 27/28 June 1944 raid.
