11th August 1943, 10 Sqn RAAF Sunderland DP177

Greetings,

I am investigating the fate of my father's uncle, P/O Roydon Adams, who went MIA on the 11th of August, 1943 on an ASW patrol in a Sunderland/DP177 over the Bay of Biscay. The family always maintained they never learned the fate of Roydon, and he was never recovered.

I have seen cut and paste references to a V./KG 40 report as to the downing of a Sunderland on the same day...

11.08.43 Staffelabschuss V./KG 40 Sunderland ?? - - Reference: CG MSS f. 213

Could I please ask:
- it is acceptable to tie these two events together?
- what exactly does "CG MSS f.213" refer to?
- is it possible to find that original reference "CG MSS f.213" online somewhere?
- I assume "Staffelabschuss" is a "pack kill" reference? No individual was confirmed with that victory?

Many thanks
Doug

Hi Doug,

Chris Goss, a member of this forum, is the person you want to talk to. The loss of DP177 is mentioned in his book "Bloody Biscay". The reference you cite contains his initials.

Thanks Chris - I've ordered your Bloody Biscay book, and look forwards to reading it.

I'm curious as to what CG MSS f.213 is a reference to? Is that another of your books?

My father and (late) grandfather always maintained they never learned the fate of Roydon on DP177. I would be very interested to know how you paired that up. German combat reports?

Many, many thanks.

Thanks Chris. I'll read Bloody Biscay and get back you ;)

I am curious as to precisely what the reference ...

11.08.43 Staffelabschuss V./KG 40 Sunderland ?? - - Reference: CG MSS f. 213

... refers to.
