John Stanaway's "Kearby's Thunderbolts"

Hello,

Would someone have a copy of John Stanaway's, "Kearby's Thunderbolts" (2007, 2nd.rev.ed.)? If so, can you tell me if the book contains detailed loss listings. I'm chasing up a 340th FS loss on 26 June 1944.

Any help appreciated.

Col.

Re: John Stanaway's "Kearby's Thunderbolts"

Col,
My copy is from 1997, but page 177 has an entry for June 26, 1944: Lt John B. Yearby (340) Killed in a takeoff accident at Wakde when his P-47 caught fire and crashed into the sea.

No MACR.

The US WW2 death list I have says he is 1st Lt John B Yerby, O-888675. It has no other details, other than that he was from Oregon, and received an Air Medal and a Purple Heart.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Re: John Stanaway's "Kearby's Thunderbolts"

Frank,

Thanks for your speedy reply, precisely what I was after!

I have O-888675 1/Lt John Barton YERBY USAAF, 340th FS/348th FG, date of death 26 June, 1944.

Yerby had previously served in the RAF (116159 F/O). He served on No.54 Squadron RAF in the defence of Darwin (1943), and later transferred to the USAAC. It is mentioned in several places that he was an ex-member of an Eagle Squadron, I can't find any evidence for that.

Appreciate your help.

Would someone have a serial for Yerby's P-47 on 26 June, 1944?

Col.
