Crash Landed Russian AF A-20
 

Great picture that shows a (presumably) dead crewman with no shoes hanging out the front of the aircraft while some German infantryman kibbitz around. Also, it looks there's a "For Stalin! logo on the side.

If white Douglas C/N: '14X' was overpainted behind/above the ...TALI... letters, then it was an A-20B of the 41-2810 - 41-2819 series. This would be a path to trace the unit and crew. Too bad, no clear number is visible on it for proper ID.

There really is nothing "great" about pictures of the deaths of other human beings, it's sickening. Please don't post anything like that again.

I can't agree more with comment, its lack of respect towards those
who defended their countries . it's starting however with Ebay and
it should not be posted anywhere.

" Za Stalina " ! I did not see an A-20 of an air regiment carrying this
inscription, was wondering which . I suspect this is one of the first
A-20's which arrived to the Black Sea Fleet seen here in winter 1943
somewhere near Krasnodar , however I may be wrong .

OK, I'm sorry about the "great" comment. I was more interested in the A/C but the macabre setting of the dead crewman piqued my fancy.
I've have a few photos of dead tank crewmen which I would never post in a public setting because they are so graphic 90% of them were on E-Bay.

Luck in unluck , the photo that you posted may be of some
relevance an event which I am trying to narrow down . It crashed
late January 1944 after attacking sea based German Navy
subs and barges on anchor at Evpatoria Bay . Was hit by AA from one of
the subs bridges . While attempting the forced landing the pilot
was killed ,rest of the crew POW's. It was a newly Jukowsky
modified A-20 dispatched to the Black Sea Fleet. This A-20 carried
"Za Stalina " on port side of the fuselage at pilot's wish who was at
Jukowsky in summer of 1943 . There is a long story attached to the
case and surviving POW's .

Hi Alex,
I am not aware of any A-20 unit carrying the 'Za Stalina!' logo, however, it could be an individual nickname too. (I have seen a T-34-85 tank carrying this on the gun in white.) Best way to ID the plane is always the S/N, I assume it was from the 41-2810-41-2819 line. Too bad no further markings are visible. Cheers,

Until yesterday I wasn't aware either, however was individually painted
for this prominent pilot while he was training on type on July or August
1943 in Moscow in parallel to his participation at the famous Moscow
war trophy exhibition . If I give you the crash date and unit can you
then locate the S/N ?
