Questions abou "Blitz"
I am not quite sure on how this twin or four engined jet Arado
was operated . The pilot seems to be strapped on a rather interesting type of back style type parachute with black metalic of some sort of a black pad between the chute and pilot's back,a stick that could have been stowed to the right and a detachable landing gear along with a brake chute . Questions : how was the pilot suposed to bail out given this was a jet bomber, was there an escape hatch underneath ? after detaching the gear and drag chute on landings how was this bomber comming to a rest ? It was not equipped with slides depicted on attachment. Also which sqd was operating the 234's and were there any brought down by Soviet and American fighters ? Again I am no expert on this . Re: Questions abou "Blitz"
It was only the prototypes for the A-series that had a jettisonable undercarriage and landed on a skid which could be extended from beneath the fuselage and usually came to rest with one wing tip on the ground. The mass-produced B-series had a tricycle undercarriage.
I don't know how many people ever did bail out of an Ar 234 successfully but the only way to do it was through the hatch in the cockpit roof. I suppose you either inverted the aircraft and dropped clear, or pitched it forward to throw yourself out. I don't know if an ejector seat was ever considered for the type. |
Re: Questions abou "Blitz"
Many thanks Nck worth researching further .Attachments AAC and RAF
captured AR-234 BR Alex K PS : I found that colored model shot , was wrong it was comming to a rest on the above depicted slides mounted centerline, I note some sort of spoilers under each engine . |
Re: Questions abou "Blitz"
Hello friends,
well i would say Arado - Yes. But not a Ar 234 but a Ar 232 cockpit. The righthand seat. So this is most probably not the Flugzeugführer. Schoene Gruesze Norbert |
