Re: P-47N loss July 8,1945
Possibly this man: Hugh B Smyth from the 333rd FS, 318th FG, lost July 8, 1945.
https://www.abmc.gov/node/527816#.VwKJ1pwrLMo From the Daily Republican newspaper in Mongongahela, PA of Aug 6, 1945 there is this: "Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Smyth, 842 Donner avenue, have been notified that their son, Lt. Hugh B. Smyth, was killed in action over Kyushu, Japan proper, July 8." The next sentence in the article, however, seems to contain an "error": "He was pilot of a B-29, based on Okinawa." |

Hugh Smyth is listed in "the Pineapple Air Force: Pearl Harbor to Tokyo" as KIA Kyushu.
Should have checked here first! The information on the loss I found at the French P-47 Database site. |
