Luftwaffe 1940 - IWM gun camera film. Recommended.

Hi all,

Below is a link to a 16 minute piece of film taken during the Battle of Britain.
You will recognise clips but I certainly had not seen most of this.

It is a compilation of many of the RAF gun camera attacks on Luftwaffe a/c.
Each clip shows a brief detail of the combat including pilot, aircraft involved and the date. Especially poignant as I noticed many names who did survive the battle. A few combats are stated as being 110s but I believe are D017s.

Anyway, I hope this is of interest.

What's even more interesting is the second clip (No.51) of F/Sgt Franklin's Spitfire of No.65 Sqn seems to show what appears to be a Bf109 with rounded wing tips dated the 7 July 1940...

mmmmmmmm...

I suspect the date is wrong? The Me109 F did not see any action until October 1940.

That's what I thought... :)

To me it looks even like a Bf 109 G-6 rather than an F with that rather massive tail wheel visible in some shots; at least that was my first Impression.

I dare say it maybe friendly fire on a Hurricane.

Looks like a Hurricane to me as well. It's actually the second aircraft that comes into the frame. Perhaps his wingman entered the frame and the first aircraft seen was the initial target.

Combat Film No 39. Pilot Officer Gruokinsky [?] of 308 Squadron on 22/7/1941 at unspecified time, flying unidentified aircraft ("R8372"). Target: Messerschmitt Me 109.

See on the right in the link (scroll down).

The 109 in question certain looks like a Hurricane to me and Rhodes-Moorehouse is nailing a Do.17.

Combat Film No. 157 shows a friendly fire incident. The first attacks were on a He111 formation, but the fighter coming into view (14:51) is definitely a Hurricane which is hit on the wings.
