Lancaster W4107 49SQ Nov 21,1942
I've always wondered why this Lancaster (W4107 49 Sq.) was not restored to flying status after its wheel down landing at the Channel Isle of Sark on November 21,1942 after a raid on Stuttgart.
From all accounts, it landed with the wheels down, thus preventing any major structural damage. |
Re: Lancaster W4107 49SQ Nov 21,1942
Sark was occupied by the Germans at the time. This is one of a few aircraft which come up as candidates for the captured Lanc flown by Luftwaffe test pilot Hans-Werner Lerche.

Actually, I read elsewhere (will have to look in my notes) that the captured Lancaster flown HW Lerche was a 103 SQ Lancaster downed in a January 1944 Berlin raid.
