SKG 10 loss, 2 June 1943

Does anyone know the identity of the aircraft and/or pilot involved in the following incident reported in our local newspaper recently.

Parts of this FW190 were recovered from the docks near the old lock gates at Ipswich but i'm yet to pin down the exact details.

It was June 2, 1943 when German bombers attacked the town (Ipswich) in an early morning raid. The attack came at 5.20am when nine Focke-Wulf FW 190 fighter bombers, flying at roof top height, dropped bombs on Prettyman Road, Felixstowe Road and Myrtle Road, with one of the aircraft crashing into the dock after flying into the blast of a bomb, hitting the jib of a crane on the quay and crashed near the lock.

Thanks in advance

If you get hold of my book on fighter-bomber attacks on the UK, you will get the answer you seek. Failing that PM me!

Can I also concur - Chris Goss's book is one of the best I have ever read about the Luftwaffe's campaign against the UK.

Despite the interesting details of this campaign, very little has been written about the 1942-43 Tip and Run Raids - Chris redressed the balance in fine form.

The detail and photos in the book are amazing - including unique photos taken single-handedly by the Fw190 pilots as they strafed landmarks!

I thoroughly recommend this nice thick book, which is worth every penny:

(Right, niceness over!)

Thanks for the info Chris.

I have to admit that the Luftwaffe isn't my main area of interest but I'll definitely be tracking down a copy of your book.
