7 January 1944
Gentlemen,
7./JG 26 lost one Fw 190 in combat with Spitfires from 91 Sqn. on 7 January 1944; this is said to have taken place in context with Ramrod No. 435. Does anybody know at what time 91 Sqn. filed its claim ? KR Jochen Prien P.S.: You will see from this request that work on JFV 13/III has started. |
Re: 7 January 1944
Hi Jochen,
According to the ORB, escort cover between 1125 and 1250 (Cherbourg) then 1440-1620 (Embroy).Free French pilot Jacques Andrieux shot down one 190 east of Berck. HTH Bertrand |
Re: 7 January 1944
91 Squadron sent 9 Spitfires on Ramrod 435 to Embry area as escort for 7 Mosquitos from 613 Sqn (2 of these Mosquitos returned early). Three other Spitfire Sqns also took part
91 Sqn took off and set course at 14:40 hrs and landed again between 15:55 and 16:25 hrs. The diary notes that "the Mosquitos came out without incident but the squadron stay in for a time and F/O J Andrieux shoots down a Fw190, one of two patrolling on the deck about 10 miles East of Berck. An exceptionally nice piece of spotting and shooting on F/O Andrieux's part." He was flying MB849 and I have a time for the claim at 15:45 hrs Regards Martin |
