Pilot ID needed

1 Attachment(s)
Can anyone identify this particular pilot. All I know is that he had 1 kill in Poland, 1 over a British machine and at least 10 Russian kills as well as a claim for a (patrol or torpedo?) boat.

Any help with a name greatly appreciated.

TIA
Adam

Perhaps you should be looking to either II. or III./JG 77 ground staff - this one is not necessarily a pilot, just posing for a photo next to a rudder of one of the Gruppe's more successful pilots. If you post a full photo, perhaps someone might come with the answer.

Here it is... this photo was discussed on Bf 109 Anton to Toni sometime ago. I believe that the conclusion was that it might have been Oblt. Emil Omert's aircraft, albeit with a member of ground crew posing next to the rudder.

Thanks for the extra picture. However, Omert did not commence operations (AFAIK) until 1940 so can not have claimed a Polish machine. Certainly his first claim was not until 1941. Moreover he claimed two Commonwealth aircraft, so something is amiss here. Are you able to link the discussion to which you refer?

You are welcome. I don't think that there is anything amiss here - the first victory tab you have identified as a Polish machine was more likely a Yugoslav machine. From the discussion on the aforementioned FB forum ... Emil Omert made a claim for an Ikarus over Belgrade 6.4.41; his second claim for a Blenheim over Malemes 26.5.41; his third was an SB-2 on 24.6.41... I am aware that sources differ on this - for example here http://www.luftwaffe.cz/omert.html.

The link to the discussion will probably not work because this is a closed FB group, but you are welcome to join - here is the link to the FB page https://www.facebook.com/groups/1528571170740726/
