Fw 190 A-4 W.Nr. 140586?

Hello,

There is currently a control stick for sale at eBay that bears the aircraft's serial number. It came from a Fw 190 (indicated by the electrical wiring diagram code 'V60') and the W.Nr. is given as 0586. It can only have been Fw 190 A-4, W.Nr. 140586:

However, this aircraft crashed with 80% damage on 26 February 1943 while with JG 1. See this old TOCH thread for more information:

If it indeed crashed 80%, I wouldn't expect that two years later a GI found the aircraft's control stick. Could it be a different W.Nr. or was 140586 rebuilt (very unlikely with 80% damage).

Hello Roger,

A quick perusal of my Fw 190 database file shows three other possible matches:

Fw 190 A-4 (140586) TE+GH (your suggestion)
Fw 190 A-6 (470586)
Fw 190 F-8 (580586)
Fw 190 A-8 (680586)

Hello again Roger,

The Hersteller code “hdl” translates as the Argus sub-contractor:

Bruhn-Werke Flugzeuggeräte ("Original-Bruhn"), Zentral Berlin, Schöneberg, Eisenacher Str. 56 [b]

Hello Steve,

Thank you for the additional options. I ruled out the A-6, A-8 and F-8 since these aircraft already had a KG 13B control stick. Only the early subtypes were equipped with a KG 14 control stick. I once read a report of JG 26 pilots complaining about the size of the KG 14 and that it was difficult to operate the buttons and gun selector switch. It could be that some of the A-6 still had KG 14s, but all photos I know of A-6 show a KG 13B and if I remember correctly also the manual mentions a KG 13B.

Roger
