Hurricane 17 Sqd 19 may 1940

Hi,

i'm searching for more info about one Hurricane damaged on 19 may 1940
i know 17 Sqn had 2 losses but nothing about this plane...only the code

Squadron: 17 Sqn
patrol: between Cambrai and Valenciennes
time: afternoon
code: YB-S
seems a combat against I.(J)/LG2 while escorting a Do 17P of 3.(F)/11

i also see a photo in the book, if you need i scan it...

the info is from page 30, Osprey Aircraft of the Aces 18 Hurricane Aces 1939-40 expanded edition

can you help me with the name of pilot, his fate and the plane serial number ...

regards

Re: Hurricane 17 Sqd 19 may 1940

If the details were available, Peter Cornwell would have included it in Battle of France T&N. With what was going on at that time, many records were not included or lost and Peter would be the first to agree with this

Re: Hurricane 17 Sqd 19 may 1940

Hi,

i add the time when the battle begins:

Sunday 19 May 1940. Hurricanes from 17 and 607 Squadrons, including that of
Morley Fidler, were patrolling the skies above Cambrai. At 1600 hours they
encountered a Dornier bomber with an escort of Messerschmitts. In the ensuing
air battle, Morley Fidler was shot in the head and baled out.
Unable to open his parachute, Morley Fidler fell into a field on the outskirts of
Bachy. His body was hastily buried where he fell, by a party of passing British
soldiers. His Hurricane aircraft crashed some distance away.
