Were was beacon Buncher #5 in England
Do somebody knows were the Buncher #5 & #7 were situated in England? I try to make a routemap of a 8th air force mission.
Hope someone can help me out. Thank you in advance, René |
Re: Were was beacon Buncher #5 in England
Not sure if you are looking for Buncher or Splasher sites
Bunchers were set up near each airfield and were operated by the USAAF Buncher 5 = Hardwick and Buncher 7 = Bury St Edmunds A Group would often form up on a Buncher, in the 1st and 3rd ADs a Group would tend to use the same Buncher all the time The 8th used a number of Splashers, operated by the RAF that were in its area Splasher 4 - Louth Splasher 5 - Mundesley (near Cromer) Splasher 6 - Scole (S of Norwich) Splasher 7 - Braintree Splasher 10 - Windlesham Splasher 16 - Brampton Grange Take your pick (ref Mighty Eighth War Manual, R.Freeman) Regards Martin |

Re: Were was beacon Buncher #5 in England
Thank you Kutscha for this great map. Very intersting. This will help me a lot in future research.
But sadly the Bunchers are not numbers only the BG number is with it. So i hope someone could tell me were near which field Buncher #7 was. |
Re: Were was beacon Buncher #5 in England
Hello René,
With regard to your latest queries on this board I would recommend you to get document AIR40/513 Operation 161: Osnabruck and Munster transportation installations, 22 Dec 1943. in TNA, Londen. It contains the route map and many more details like narrative of operations, encounters with the enemy, fighter support, etc, etc. May save you a lot of time in trying to reconstruct it with bits and pieces found on the net! Regards, Hans |
Re: Were was beacon Buncher #5 in England
mystex, I know you are looking Bunchers but here is a more complete list of Splashers,
Post #7 https://www.airfieldresearchgroup.or...lasher-beacons In this link is a reference to Buncher 9L9, http://www.801492.org/Air%20Crew/Ell...EllisCrew.html |
Re: Were was beacon Buncher #5 in England
Hello Hans, Thank you for your suggestion. At my last visit to TNA i found the AIR40/513 and picture it. But i want to make a map of the assembling of the Division above England. I also requested copies of files (Field orders, Combat Files etc) at College Park but they all talk about Bunchers and Splashers....haha
