Nantes France

I am trying to find out which German fighter groups were in this area on September 23 1943. My uncle was with the 379th Bombardment Group on the B17 AC# 42-29937 which was shot down while on a mission over Rennes/Nantes France. From what i've gathered one of it's engines is in a air warfare muesum in Nantes.

Hello,

I have just found your message. Indeed B17 #42-29937 of your uncle loss to a few kilometers from the airfield from Rennes St Jacques.

On the commune of Moigné.
I have had even for several months to recover photographs of the crash landing, according to a witness!
On the other hand I am supris that one of the engines is with the air warfare muesum in Nantes.
On the other hand a friend has at his place one of the pale of B17.

Re: Nantes France

Thank you for your help. This is great these men were all part of my Uncle S/Sgt Waldo L Ricketts crew. I'm surprised to see thatThe Bombardier George C Padgett was an evader of capture. He is always listed as captured. I've made contact with the pilot of this plane 1Lt Leslie T Breidenthal I hope to gain more information from him as to te events of there missions.
