Out of curiousity, I have another 100% loss for a Ju 88A-7 WNr. 4316. Should this have been the same plane or does the leading '88' on the loss Matti cites indicate a completely different machine?

Ju 88A-7, 4316, Mohrhof, Hptm. Karl-Heinz, , IV., 11., KG 77, , 3Z+AV, PB+IN, , 19-Dec-43, MIA with crew, probably due to engine trouble., , Lw.Bfh.Mitte, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #12)-Vol.24, Medcalf, PlQu. 86 65/15, 100%, F, B Ogefr. Werner Jannat, Bf Fw. Fritz Kaften & Bs Ogefr. Ernst Gärtner, , Dornier Flzg.Werke Wismar in Apr-41

4316 is reported with Ju 88 A-4 on 27 Feb 1944 and with Ju 88 A-7 on 19 Dec 1943. Either of them must be wrong, because both were 100 %.

This WNr. 4316 was used twice: 0884316 for Ju 88 A-5 and 144316 for Ju 88 A-14. 144316 was damaged by bombing (20 %) at Fl.Pl. Villacoublay on 5 Feb 1944. That leaves 0884316 possible for those two losses.

Ju 88 A-7 was a dual control trainer based on Ju 88 A-5, which makes me to think that 19 Dec 1943 was in fact 0884316. But what was then 27 Feb 1944? Could 144316 have been repaired, flown to Denmark, crashed and reported as Ju 88 A-4 in three weeks?

Maybe edNorth have an explanation.

Matti
