WHEELER, Henry Neil George

Trying to ascertain which Photo Recon squadron Wheeler was on prior to becoming 236 Squadron OC in late November 42, having had a bad car accident.

Many Thanks

Andy

He was initially with the Photo Reconnaissance Unit. See here for details from the man himself in 1991, page 7 onwards:

and here for his career details:

Hi Andy,

"Nebby" Wheeler had been a photo recce pilot with the PRU (later 1 PRU) since 1940. At the time of his accident, 14Mar42, he was o/c 'A' Sqn 1 PRU and deputy C/O 1 PRU. Once he was suitably recovered he went to take up a staff post at the Air Ministry (Directorate of Naval Co-operation I believe).

Best Regards

Hello,

Wheeler was involved in at least one other accident. On 22 March, 1938, at Worthy Down, he taxiied No.207 Sqn Wellesley I K7760 into (Wellesley) K7761, which was damaged beyond repair.

Cheers Andy,

Superb, I was floundering as not having found the actual date, just the month and year. 12 o'clock high forum to the rescue.

Best regards

Thanks Col B,

Wasn't aware of this, I'll put in the notes section of Strike Wing Personal at North Coates for Wheeler.

Best regards

Andy B.
