Hurricanes BW945 & LW941
Hi guys
These two Hurricanes ended up in Russia and both were apparently modified into two-seaters, with the back-seat guy armed with a machine-gun! I believe the mod had something to do with bomber air-gunner training, but I don't really know. I'm sure that there are a number of Hurricane buffs out there who have answers, please. Do any photographs exist? Cheers Brian |
Re: Hurricanes BW945 & LW941
Hi Brian
The two seat conversations of Hurricanes were used for artillery spotting. More information and a photo of BW945 can be found here: http://sovietwarplanes.com/board/index.php?topic=876.0 |

Many thanks, Rainer
I am more enlightened now! Cheers Brian |
Re: Hurricanes BW945 & LW941
according to "Air Arsenal North America" BW945 was not transferred to the Soviet Union.
the photo is difficult to see in that area ,but looks to me to be a round number. so I believe it could be BW946 or 948 as both were on the transfer list. |
Re: Hurricanes BW945 & LW941
????????
Don't know which issue of Air Arsenal you have but BW945 is certainly recorded as going to Russia on page 135, first column, line 14. It is a difficult tabulation to read, but it is there alright. Official date shipped was 21.6.1942 If the aircraft we look at really is BW945 is another matter, which I cannot state. What puzzles me Brian is LW941 which I think you should re-check, since according to all information I have it was a black out Oxford serial number, hence never used. Cheers Stig |
