Re: Les Wignall ???
Currently working in North Wales at Llandbeder airfield. A lot of history here and they have asked me to help ID a squadron photo. I can make out the name Les Wignall on the reverse. Any ideas please of this pilot? Looks to be a wartime Spitfire - Hurricane group.
Thanks Danny |
Re: Les Wignall ???
Hello,
Just to eliminate him from your search, the only " Leslie Wignall I could find in the CWGC site was a Staff Sgt in the Army. Date of death was mid 1946 in the Middle East. Is it possible that due to an injury or some other reason he transferred from the RAF at some time and continued in military service in the Army ? Otherwise there must have been another Leslie Wignall that served in the RAF that survived WW2. This may be your man - Air Force List - RAFVR Accountant Branch 104176- L. Wignall - APO(A) - 25.6.41( Nov 41) 104176 - L. Wignall - P/O(A) - 3.10.41.(Jan 42) L. Wignall - F/Lt (t) - 1.7.44(Jul 45). Good hunting Alex |
Re: Les Wignall ???
When I was working at Llanbedr a year or so ago, they had nothing apart from when it was being used for Jindviks! There is a book on the airfield locallly published which covers the wartime period quite well. They knew nothing about the Stirling off the shore though.
