4 Panzerjagdstaffel Bü 181

Gents,

I don't suppose anyone has any info on the above unit, in particular the possible action listed below?

I have Christian Möller's book "Das letzte Aufgebot der deutschen Luftwaffe" but unfortunately there is little info on this particular Staffel.

The Staffel was in Gablingen and around Ulm on 24.4.1945.

According to a Soldbuch I have the member was previously an instructor with Flugzeugführerschule A 14 in Klagenfurt. On 17.4.1945 his pilots license was destroyed during a "Tieffliegerangriff". The entry is authorised by Oblt. u. Staka Wilhelm Breimer.

In Luftwaffe Colours Schlachtflieger - Luftwaffe Ground-attack Units 1937-1945 (Ian Allan 2007) https://www.amazon.de/Schlachtfliege.../dp/1857802748 there´s a whole chapter about this unit as far as I remember.
The Bü 181 is on the frontpage; they flew ground support sorties with underslung Panzerfaust armour-piercing weapons.

Thanks Roland,

I would imagine the article concerns all Bü 181 Panzerfaust units rather than this partcular Staffel...so far I have not found a great deal of info on the 4th Staffel.....will check the book out though.

Regards,
Ian

Re: 4 Panzerjagdstaffel Bü 181

Hello Ian,

I met a German glider pilot in Brazil, who trained on Ju 88 by the end of the war (for the Nachtjagd), but was later "unemployed", since there was no fuel, etc...and seems to have flown the Bu 181 with Panzerfaust. At least, from what he told me. His name (Family) is Heinz. He do fly occasionally now, since he lost most of his eyesight, but Flight Instructors do carry him on the air and he do fly by the "pants", as we use to say...Unfortunately, I only met him twice and he did not informed me the unit he flew against the Russians, neither if he actually saw combat on that kind of Bird...He do lives in Jundiaí, São Paulo State.

Most sincerely yours,
Adriano

Hello Adriano!

Is it possible, that your man is Unteroffizier Hans Ficker?
Hans grew up in Brasilia.
He and Unteroffizier Werner Diermeyer flew with a stolen
Bü 181 C-2, W.-Nr. 502167, 3.Panzerjagdstaffel Bü 181, ex FFS A/B 23,
from Kaufbeuren to Switzerland.
Last thing that is known about him is, that he was at quarantine camp
Olten, Switzerland.

My source: Fluzeug Classic 02/2006

Most of the Panzerjagdstaffeln Bü 181 existed only on paper to
protect the pilots from fighting on ground.

Herzliche Grüsse aus Oberschwaben,

Wolfgang
