II./JG 2 - June 1944

Gentlemen,

II./JG 2 returned to France after a short spell of rest and refit at Gütersloh on 14 June 1944. It returned to its former base at Creil at first but was immediately sent to small landing strips near Creil as the former base was too exposed to US carpet-bombing.

In several original sources one of the landing strips is given as Baron which was said to have been situated some 20 kms southwest of Creil. I cannot find a place by the name of Baron there but a place named Boran-sur-Oise. Can anybody enlighten me whether this was in fact the location of the Gruppe's landing strip in mid June 1944 ?

Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Re: II./JG 2 - June 1944

This from my JGr. 200 research:
Further north, II. Jagdkorps told JG 27 that the four JGr. 200 men who had arrived with the Geschwader the day before should instead report to II./JG 2 at "Airfield 409" (this was probably Baron, 18 km. south east of Creil, where that Gruppe was based).
The 18 km distance (a little different from Snautzer's) was a measurement taken with the line tool on Google Earth.

The landing ground near Baron (Oise) also called "Waldwiese".
