Re: KG 200 Pilot’s
There is a prisoner of war interrogation reports that speaks of plans for FAG 123 to use a captured P-47 on reconnaissance over England. I think you will find earlier discussions about that on this forum.
In the Summer of 1944, KG 200's operational flying units were undertaking transport duties. Some of those transport missions used captured aircraft like the B-17 (in Greece) and French flying boats (in Finland); many others used the Ju 188 and He 111. The organisation of KG 200 is well known and it did not have a fighter Staffel although later it used Fw 190 F-models as bombers. Two good books on the subject are "Moskau ruft Heeresgruppe Mitte" by Dr. Günther W. Gellermann and "KG 200, the Luftwaffe's Most Secret Unit" by Geoffrey J. Thomas. |

I also like "KG 200: The True Story" by PW Stahl.
After all, he was there! |
Re: KG 200 Pilot’s
Jump over to the LEMB and look up this subject of a captured P 47 strafing U.S. troops, nothing ever came of this in the way of concrete evidence as I remember....perhaps a fairy tale?

Last summer I had a meeting with US-and RAF-pilots in England. One former B 17-pilot insisted in public that he has been attacked by captured mustangs flown by German pilots with US-markings. I protested, that this was not our behaviour and asked him to send me details from USA. He never did. herzliche Grüße Peter Spoden |
Re: KG 200 Pilot’s
Hi All,
From a google search for the old LEMB site before the 'crash', a thread on a crashed P-47 with luftwaffe markings, I originally posted the mentioned photo via the board, and will try to find the original copy i was e mailled, sadly i lost the source of the photo in a 'computer crash' But here is a link to the cached thread, sadly no photos, but there is the discussion as to the possible identity of the P-47. Cheers Jerry http://66.249.93.104/search?q=cache:...k&ct=clnk&cd=1 |
