Unidentified KG 3 crash-landings
Can anyone identify these losses (and Peter Cornwell has not as yet). First is 5K+EH of 1 Staffel and the second is 4 Staffel but not the one that crash-landed near Dunkirk on 15 Sep 40

Re: Unidentified KG 3 crash-landings
I have one Do 17 Z-2 WNr. 2592 from 1./KG 3 crashed, impact fire 100% at St. Leonard on 24-Nov-40. All others from 1./KG3 have different Verb.Kz. A long shot maybe. 3 crew killed. I do not see a lot of fire damage but maybe it was put out fairly quickly.

Re: Unidentified KG 3 crash-landings
Chris,
a) I have several photo of 5K+EH in the EoE Photo DB, tentatively identified as FL at "Melsbroek," Belgium, NE of Brussels, on May 12, 1940. However, not confirmed. I've won some photos of this one on eBay, hoping to get the W.NR. but have only tenuously recorded 2354. The location probably came from a caption on one of the photos. b) I think the 2nd is 5K+JM of 4./KG3 FL sometime during the WC. Also not certain, but prop blades are bent the same. What is the strange "hump" that appears above or behind the rear gunner's compartment? Regards, |
