Luftwaffe Losses 9-10 Aug 42
 

Typhoons of 266 Sqn claimed a Ju 88 50 miles east of Cromer at 2030 hrs the night of 9 Aug 42. I can see no corresponding Luftwaffe loss apart from an Me 210 of Erprobungskommando Me 210 lost on an operational flight-Quartermaster General's Returns say 10 Aug 42 but the NVM says 9 Aug 42. Can anyone help me confirm that the 266 Sqn victim was an Me 210? On 13 Aug 42, 266 Sqn stated they were after a Ju 88 of 3/122 and shot one down but in fact shot down an Me 210 so their aircraft ID was not that perfect!

The Horn KG 6 history in the text page 255 has Me 210 A-1 of Erprobungsstaffel 210 as lost off the east coast of England on 9.August 1942. However in the loss list on page 357 it has crashed following AA fire off the east coast on the 10th. It would seem the NVM with info. originating from the unit would be correct perhaps the GQM linked the Me 210 loss to later action by KG 2 on the 9/10th with take off just before midnight

Thanks Brian. Having read the combat report & that part of the canopy was jettisoned, I feel that the 210 was lost on the 9th. Don't know why Horn listed it as it would not be for another 3 weeks that it became 16,/KG 6
