Just a question to confirm my sources To which gruppe belonged Hmtm Waldemar Wagler who landed in Sweden on 24 April 1945 ? II or III.JG 51 ? His machien was Bf 109 G-10/R6 (Erla built) weraring the tactical code white 14 + - Many thnaks Eric |
Re: Hptm Waldemar Wagler
Eric,
You can rule out the II. Gruppe as it was disbanded at Fels am Wagram, Austria, on 12. 4. 1945. III./JG 51 is much more likely candidate, because (at least one) another pilot from this Gruppe landed in Sweden due to navigation error - Fw. Horst Petzchler of 10./JG 51 on 4. 5. 1945. Hope this helps a little, Ota |
Re: Hptm Waldemar Wagler
Yes I know him , band that II./JG51 was disbanded on 12.4.45 but the aircrafts wore tha markings of II./JG51 . Ok it may be one of the remaining machines split to the 2 remaining groups .

Re: Hptm Waldemar Wagler
According to Jagdgeschwader 51 Mölders by Gerhard Aders and Werner Held, Hptm. Waldemar Wagler (previously member of 15./JG 51) was commanding the group of pilots whose task was to deliver 24 brand new Bf 109G-10s from Garz to Junkertroylhof (to supply them to III./JG 51). If his machine wore II. Gruppe markings, then it was possibly ex-II./JG 3 machine (IIRC, this Gruppe was based at Garz on Usedom in February 1945).

Re: Hptm Waldemar Wagler
I agree with Ota. New II./JG 3 was composed from former KG 1´s He 177 personell. There was even small group of JG 3 pilots detached to JG 51 at the end of the war.
