Fw 200 Friendly Fire?

Both Günther Ott and myself have found mentions of a Fw 200 from 1./KG 40 being shot down by friendly fire off Lorient on 24 Jul 41. Hptm Konrad Verlohr and his crew failed to return from a mission that afternoon (last heard of being 24 km west of Les Sables D'Olonne on approach to French coast) and as we know, there was a massive attack on German warships by Halifaxes of 35 and 76 Sqn that afternoon with claims by I./JG 2 and Erg/JG 53. However, one pilot. Uffz Gerhard Schmalenberg, claimed a Stirling whilst the others claimed Halifaxes. Anyone have any evidence or theories?

Many thanks. Let us hope that the next Fw 200 book gets the same response from you!
