IDENTITY OF PILOT

2 Attachment(s)
Does anyone know the possible identity of the pilot in this photo?

It was amongst my Uncle's belongings and he was killed in Kharkov in June 1943.

He was part of: 2 (F)/AufklGr 11 Their unit emblem is on the sign in the background.

Note the person has the Ritterkreuz which should make identification easier

Re: IDENTITY OF PILOT

Looking at the shield in the background, he may have been with KG 30

Now a diving eagle clawing something was pretty usual with Luftwaffe units.
The background is a bit too fuzzy to be certain.

Re: IDENTITY OF PILOT

Stig,

Please don't get me wrong, but that emblem did belong to 2.(F)/Aufkl.Gr. 11, as stated in the opening post. The motif shows a diving bird of prey with a camera in its claws. Nothing to do with KG 30.

Sinisa

Re: IDENTITY OF PILOT

Yes Sinisa

The diving eagle was a common motive. If the Aufkl.Gr. 11 is fixed in stone, we don't need to widen the search.

Cheers

Re: IDENTITY OF PILOT

Stig,

Nothing as far as I am concerned is carved in stone, but there is no doubt in my mind on the above emblem's rightful owner - 2.(F)/Aufkl.Gr. 11.

Sinisa
