Hudsons scrambled 20th December 1942
Hello,
Being a novice about Coastal Command operations, I have a request: On the late evening of 20th December 1942 four Hudsons of Coastal Command were despatched to attack a convoy seen by Bomber Command aircraft at 20.10 off the Dutch coast. All returned, nothing seen. Who has more details about this mission (squadron? RAF station? aircraft identities? time of start and landing?) Many thanks in advance, Marcel Hogenhuis |
Re: Hudsons scrambled 20th December 1942
The only operation I can find is 320 Sqn from Bircham Newton which flew four Nomad patrols in Hudsons after the time you specify.
407 Sqn flew Crossover Patrols that evening, and 320 Sqn a strike sortie but both were earlier on. The four 320 Sqn Nomad sorties off Hoek van Holland and Den Helder are as follows EW899/G Pilot - Laamens 23:15 to 01:25 FK402/R Pilot - Ritte 23:00 to 02:20 EW922/V Pilot - van Waart 22:47 to 01:27 EW905/A Pilot - Maas 22:50 to 02:30 Not much seen Regards Martin |

Hello Martin,
Thank you very much for your most informative response and what a coincidence that these Hudson were from 320 (Dutch) RAF squadron ! Most helpful answer, thanks! Best regards, Marcel |
