Hotel/Gasthof in Freiburg

In a few weeks time I'm going to BA-MA and Freiburg and would like to find a new place to stay in. This time I won't bring a car so preferably it should have good accesibility to convenient public transportation to the archive.

Can you recommend any hotel/gasthof etc with a reasonable comfort/price ratio?

Thanks!
/Mikael

I have quite a few times stayed at Hotel Sonne. It is situated in Basler Strasse within walking distance to the archive. And it is also quite easy to get to town from there. The prices are fairly cheap and the service is ok.

Have a nice trip to Freiburg (and visit the arabian resturant a bit further down the street - and drink a Wotan been (very, very, very strong - and good).

You can stay in the Intercity Hotel. It´s located beside the train station and is very close to the Archiv. But you will have to take a bus to it.

I can recommend the same as Carsten, and the arabian resturant is indeed very good, but at this time of the year you wont get the Wotan beer sadly!!!!

Hi, Mikael

I would also go for the Intercity Hotel, right beside the train station.

Very nice rooms (but no air conditioning sadly...), wireless internet which is a plus, short distance to everything and there is a bus card included as long as you stay (you can use the bus service as much as you like for the entire stay).

Hopefully the restaurant at the stadium has started serving 'Schlachplatte' again.... the look on the rest of the guys faces when Kjetil K ate that was really a memory for keeping!

Regards,
Andreas

I see that at 'Intercity Hotel' prices are double (close to 100 Euros/night), than in 'Hotel Sonne'. Quite a difference when one plans to stay more than a couple of days.

I also plan to visit the archives sometimes in late 2007.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try one of them. Food and especially beer is always a delight when in Germany. Last time I was in Freiburg it was in the middle of a wine festival so everyone was walking around in the old town drinking localy made wine which was OK too. :-)

Hi Mikael!

I just called Hotel zum Löwen, my favourite, to book a room for my trip in July. Very friendly, nice and cheap, if I remember correctly 35-40 Euro per night. But it is some distance from the city centre: first tram No 1 and then 15 min of (pleasant) walk (or bus if you like) from the tram stop. Almost rural surroundings in the far west of the city.

Happy hunting at the archive!

Lennart
