PO W.A. Aziz 443 Squadron
Can anyone tell me more about this pilot? 443 Squadron were pretty cosmopolitan with both American and Mexican pilots among its team but Aziz is yet another unusual name. His photo looks to show a young man or middle-eastern or Indian sub-continent descent.

His full name would also be nice to know (service number J/26930).

Hi Keith,
have you seen this link to a detailed 443 Sqd History:- http://www.mcmanus.ca/02CofC/443hist...s/history1.htm Bruce Lander |

William A Aziz. I don't know his middle name. Credited with 1/0/1 victories with 412 Squadron.

Re: PO W.A. Aziz 443 Squadron
Cheers chaps. Thanks for the link Bruce, it was this site that showed me a photo of him (hence my question). As you know my interest is in Wally McLeod and 443 has become another strand of that. Its a brilliant site with tons of detail as you know. Through it I found what appears to be a war crime.
http://www.holisticsailor.com/tag/spitfire-pilot/ It does seem Aziz was at least a second-generation Canadian, but the surname is an interesting indication of diversity in the Commonwealth forces. regards Keith |
Re: PO W.A. Aziz 443 Squadron
Aziz apparently did not last long with 443 after his incident on April 25th, when he suffered oxygen failure at 20,000 ft., only to pull the Spit out of its dive between 10 and 5,000 ft. Both wings were wrinkled badly and from what I recall, the Spit never flew again. I suspect he got quite the scare.
