Battle of Kharkov, August 1943
Good evening!
I recently read several accounts of Soviet forces attempting to recapture Kharkov during August of 1943 (finally taken on August 23rd). Apparently, on August 20th, one Soviet armored assault was halted by Ju-87's striking assembly areas outside the city with "extra heavy" bombs used. What Luftwaffe unit was this? I know that there were several Stuka units in the area at the time, including StG.2, StG.77, as well as III/StG.3 and III/StG.1. Thanks in advance if information is available. markr |
Re: Battle of Kharkov, August 1943
Have not heard about 'extra heavy bombs', but the unit seems to be St.G. 77 operating from Poltawa, III./Stuka 3 was possibly also there. Other Stuka units flying further south, or north.
Targets mentioned are Kudrawez/Kudrawzy and Achtyrka. regards, Pawel |
