ME 109E Wreck recovery

1 Attachment(s)
My father recovered these VIN tags from a ME-109E that crashed in Kent, Sept 1940. He took me to the crash site when I was a child. I was wondering if there is any way to find out more about the aircraft, pilot, etc?
Thank You,
Colin

Re: ME 109E Wreck recovery

Colin,

What you have are two equipment plates, which offer no specifics with respect to a particular event, aircraft or pilot. Perhaps the date and location that you indicate may be used to narrow the possibilities, however.

Good luck,
Steve

Hi,

I agree with Snautzer 100% - Telefunken. To be specific these are the data plates that were attached to the two rectangular support frames that were in the rear fuselage of the Bf109E. These frames hold the FuGVII radio sets. One frame holds the Transmitter and the other frame holds the receiver. These frames were then attached to the fuselage structure by Rubber Bungi cords, to alleviate vibration from the engine.

A point of note is that the same radio set was in the Ju87B Stuka.

Hope This helps.

Kind Regards
