Good morning Gentlemen,

I think Sergei Luganskii is the most successful Yak-1 pilot but the victory lists of these website differ from each other:

Which is correct ?

airaces.narod says that Bykov does not list his kills in the Finnish war , that may be the difference in the numbers ???

that's an important point.
Has Mr Bykov simply forgotten Luganskii's Finnish Winter War kill or did he omit it because there was none ???

according to Bykov's The Aircraft of Soviet Aces (2016) Luganskii scored no victories during the Winter War.

agree that. according to the stats of appendix in The Winter War in the Air by Carl-Fredrik Geust, Luganski got no claims in the Russo-Finnish War. it might happen that Sergei did shoot some planes down, but they were lack of document proven

alright, let's assume he didn't score in the Finnish Winter War until someone provides a good proof for the opposite.

Another thought: his famous Yak-1B with a victory tally of "32" painted on its fuselage.
According to Mellinger it was presented to him between late 1943 and May 1944.
According to this website

Luganskii's victory tally stood at 32 only in the time frame between 2Jun1944 and 6Jun1944.
May it be that the machine was given to him in May 1944 when his tally stood at 31 kills plus a possible unidentified (Winter War?) claim ?

Luganskii died at the age of 58. What was the cause of his death ?

Hello Michel,
Sergei Danilovich died as a result of a stroke. This was the second stroke, the first was in November 1968, when he became paralyzed and could not speak.

Dear Kirill,

thanks for your answer. After reading STALIN'S FALCONS I have the inpression, that a large percentage of the Soviet aces survived the war but only few reached an old age.
