Stuka Gruppen hit Italian ship Foscolo 15May40
In Coastal Commands Sam McHardy's memoirs of the 15 May 1940 flying air cover off Zeebrugge with two other 248 Sqn Blenheims. He describes seeing Stukas attacking a cargo ship six miles off Zeebrugge.
There are two cargo ships mentioned for this day as being attacked by the Luftwaffe, but only one that states the vessel was six miles off Zeebrugge - the Foscolo. Is there any corresponding material as to identify which St. G. it may have been. Best regards Andy Bird |

The Foscolo was by KG 30. I am not sure whether 5 days after the invasion in France, Stukas were just being engaged against land targets in support of the Army's advance? I have 12 claims for ships by the Luftwaffe on this day and all by twin-engined ac

Andy: All I have is I & III/KG 30 were active but no Gruppe is annotated for the sinking of the 3059 ton Foscolo which radioed at 1425 hrs it was under attack between North Foreland and the Belgian coast

Just a remark: Stukas is sometimes used in Allied reports or testimonies to designate German dive bombers, including Ju 88s doing such attacks.
