II/KG27 Operations 21/22.2.41.
Hi could anybody help with a few details regarding losses during the above dates.
He111 1G+FP W.Nr. 2611 Lt.Klaus Fritzsche and his Bo.Ofw Jakob Haller were killed, 3 others were wounded. Would anybody happen to know roughly the time of the incident , and are the crew EKM.No's known? He111P 1G+CP W.Nr. 2798 Ofw.Karl Riemschneider baled out wounded, as did the remainder of his crew, apparently all safe following ops to Bristol on 21.2.41. Is Riemschneider's EKM. No. known from the NVM. He111H-3 1G+GM W.Nr. 3247 Lt.Bernhard Rusche plus two others killed, two missing. If the NVM exists could anybody help with this crews EKM.No's. Loss occurred 22 or 23.2.41? I have another note casting doubt on the a/c's code, could it have been 1G+BM? Any help with any of the above would be appreciated. Best regs, Steve. |
Re: II/KG27 Operations 21/22.2.41.
I have WNr.2798 as WNr.2789

Re: II/KG27 Operations 21/22.2.41.
Thank you Gogh for confirming this. I have some notes claiming this to be a P-2 variant, but thought to be a He111H-2, presumably with the werknummer I had!
Do you have any NVM information on hand for these losses. Kindest regs, Steve. |

No Perhaps Matti
My info comes from the old LEMB site and from Luftarchiv.de |
Re: II/KG27 Operations 21/22.2.41.
No problem Peter, with a bit of luck maybe Matti sees this and could possibly provide the answers.

Re: II/KG27 Operations 21/22.2.41.
The GenQM states He 111 P-2 WNr. 2789 for Riemenschneider.

Thank you Norbert I have since corrected this error and I am now satisfied with this. Just would like the NVM info to tie these losses up.

Re: II/KG27 Operations 21/22.2.41.
The problem here is that WNr 2789 is not a P-2 but a H-2.
According to Volker Koos, Arado - Brandenburg built a H-2 batch with WNr 2697 to 2790 Also according to Volker Koos, Heinkel - Rostock built a P-2 batch with WNr 2791 to 3000 Could a P-2 be reworked as a H-2 and vice versa? No idea. As far as I am concerned WNr 2789 is a He 111 H-2 WNr 2798 is a He 111 P-2 Also would 6./KG 27 use both P-2 and H-2 within their Staffel? Possibly but if I was technical manager for II./KG 27 at least I would have tried to keep the various Staffeln equipped with single types and not mixing P-2 and H-2 all over the Gruppe. With that in mind I would say that both losses that night were P-2 and as such it feels more likely that WNr 2611 and 2798 are correct. Heaven knows that is far from enough.... :) Cheers Stig PS: Forgot to mention that there is both a He 111 H-2 with WNr 02611 and a He 111 P-2 with WNr 2611 :) |
Re: II/KG27 Operations 21/22.2.41.
Stig is correct WNr. 2789 was a H-2. It is also confirmed in the Übersichtsliste der Änderungs-Anweisungen He 111. I simply quoted the GenQM report. Sorry should have added this information.

Re: II/KG27 Operations 21/22.2.41.
Thank you Stig and Norbert.
I mentioned previously above that there were doubts on the subtype of W.Nr.2789 or 2798? Stig, the various staffeln of II/KG27 used the P model, as well as the H series. Examples include the following below. 22/23.2.41 4/KG27 lost 1G+GM W.Nr 3247 He111H-3, 8/9.3.41 5/KG27 lost 1G+FN W.Nr 3166 He111H-3, 12.3.41. 4/KG27 lost 1G+DM W.Nr 2705 He111H-4.
