7/JG 53:Very strange claims
Hello all
27/05/40 That day, between 14h15 and 14h25, five Morane and Curtis were claimed by 7/JG 53. (region of Creil) NO French Fighters were lost in that region between 14h15-14h25 EXCEPT the 8 Moranes of GC 1/2 destroyed ON THE GROUND;it seems that the RAF was not involved in the area at this time. 1) Are fraudulent claims? 2)or other things that I missed? One of you has an idea? Michel |
Re: 7/JG 53:Very strange claims
A long, long shot but one of the five claims by 7./JG 53 between 14h12 and 14h25 is for a Cauldron 710, and the book "The battle of France then and now" has for this day an entry for Polish unit GC I/145:
"Caudron C-714 (8576). Damaged at Villacoublay, exact circumstances not recorded. Pilot believed unhurt. Aircraft I-234 damaged but repairable" |
Re: 7/JG 53:Very strange claims
Hi Laurent
Long, long shot? that is to say? Villacoublay and Creil, not really in the same place. Caudron C-714 n°44 (8576) The reason is:I quote; the Lt FIEDORCZUK forgot to take the train off the landing, plane damaged by landing. Michel |
Re: 7/JG 53:Very strange claims
Thanks for the additional info on the damaged Caudron.
My idea was that an aircraft damaged in an air battle over Creil could well have landed with damage at Villacoublay. Not the same place, but less than 50 km between them so quite close for aircraft. So, we still have 5 claims with no known opponent. |
