What is this ?
Can someone please identify this?
A flying test bed, perhaps? http://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-Strahltr...-/311883414395 |
Re: What is this ?
To ME, it looks like the external generator on the starboard side of a Ju 52.

Re: What is this ?
Thank you, GRM.
But I think a Ju W34. |
Re: What is this ?
Junkers W34 - sure, O.K. (I wondered just how the photographer was going to make that shot from a Ju 52).

Re: What is this ?
It is an external generator but the rivets in the nearer area look wrong.

Re: What is this ?
I agree that it does look like some type of ram air generator and looks like it is mounted on a pylon close to the cockpit. Could be a test version as the paint doesn't match the rest of the aircraft. I am not sure of what type of aircraft it is but the size of the article seems to be rather small in comparison to the aircraft. Could be a scaled down test version of a jet engine. (?) IMHO

Re: What is this ?
I'm thinking it's not a jet engine. The rear outlet is insufficient. Here is a drawing (scroll down a little) that shows the generator as fitted in the bottom left and a bit larger view in the bottom middle drawing.
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=20946.0 It looks like a match. The difference in color may be due to a hasty installation of a replacement due to malfunction or some crash damage. Ed |

A nice photo of the generator here
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ww2ima...n/photostream/ The one in the listing may have been taken from an upper turret. (?) Vince... |
