Info needed about this Me-109 G6 crash pic
2 Attachment(s)
Hello gentlemen,
I'm requesting your help in order to identify this Me109 G6 crash landed in a field and which appeared to be a G6 late version. I would like to know his Jagdgeschwader and if possible the crash place and the pilot's name. The Werk Nummer is a little bit visible and seem's to be 413596 or 413598 ??? I found nothing on the JB Frappé's book "La Luftwaffe face au débarquement". Any info are welcome. Many thanks in advance Regards Loic |

Re: Info needed about this Me-109 G6 crash pic
Hi !
Something strange on my data records: i've got the same WkNr for two different planes: - Bf 109 G6; 413596; Fw. Max LAU; 9./JG 1; KIA 05/08/44 in Luftkampf mit P38; Compiegne - Bf 109 G6; 413596; Oblt. Dietrich SPONNAGEL; 11./JG 27; WIA 23/08/44 in Crash, Ermenonville These places are not in Normandy but north of Paris ... I hope that will help. Regards. JF |
JF,
Fw. Max Lau: WNr.413597 (!) according Prien & Rodeike, JG 1 & 11, II, p.1195 Sponnagel, WNr.413595 (!) Prien/Rodeike/Stemmer, III. & IV./JG 27, p.333 BUT! ... There is a but! A 2nd total loss for 413597 on 22/10/44 (Ring, JG 51 loss list, p.54). |
Re: Info needed about this Me-109 G6 crash pic
It's funny ! These staggered numbers are surprising. It is probably not possible to question the work of these researchers: I update my list. Thank you Ouidjat.
I still remain cautious on these numbers stories, I noticed number of error of transcription in the archives. Anyway "41359 (x)" is a Bf 109 G6. |

You are welcome JF. Regards, Franck. PS: I would like to know - since we are talking of transcription errors ;) - where did you get your own information concerning both 413596's losses. Let's say I'm curious. |

"BUT! ... There is a but!
A 2nd total loss for 413597 on 22/10/44 (Ring, JG 51 loss list, p.54)." That one I have as 413497 with 10./JG 51. |
Re: Info needed about this Me-109 G6 crash pic
Hi there,
further to W.Nr. 413596, we can exclude W.Nr. 413 598 as a possible reading. The latter was found dismantled at Gilze-Rijen in January 1945 and assembled at Antwerpen-Deurne, in February 1945 as seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...-jcuhZb-dy2B3Z http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...-jcuhZb-dy2B3Z It was from then on flown as VD358 sporting british camouflage and markings: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...-jcuhZb-dy2B3Z http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...-jcuhZb-dy2B3Z Try as I might no further information for W.Nr. 413 596. For the record the first loss of one machine from this production block was W.Nr. 413 478, flown by Uffz. Hermann Meinert, 9./JG 3, missing south of Caen on 2 July 1944. Hoping for further informations as 413 596 was obviously belly landed and, given the growth of the crop, quite early in the Normandy campaign (before August). Cheers Marc |
