Fw./Lt. Günther Jahn, JG 2
Gentlemen,
Fw. Günther Jahn belonged to the Stabsschwarm of II./JG2, flying temporarily as wingman of Maj. Kurt Bühligen. When the latter took over JG 2 in May 1944, Günther Jahn was posted to Stab/JG 2 and was apparently commissioned as Leutnant. He filed his third claim on 5 July 1944. According to unconfirmed information he was killed while flying low level attacks on allied tanks in the Caen area in the summer of 1944. Has anybody got information / documetns to substantiate this ? KR Jochen Prien |

Re: Fw./Lt. Günther Jahn, JG 2
There is a book avaiable online on the Second Infantry Regiment, Fifth Infantry Division, that was in Cormolain area on this date.
Here is what is written: "On July 24, the skies had cleared sufficiently to permit the enemy to break out some of his fighters. The Regimental CP underwent a strafing attack by a force of about 12 Fw-190's and ME-109's. At least four of their number were brought down by friendly AA and fighters. The raid had been fruitless, for a counting of noses proved that no damage had been done and no casualties suffered." The source: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?...iew=1up;seq=32 |
