Aircraft operated by the SS

It has been claimed that the SS operated a number of aircraft solely for its own purposes. True? If so, can anyone cite any references?

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Fliegergeschwader zbV 7 (or also referenced as KGrzbV7)

Hi, Ed.

The SS used aircraft for so-called 'Bandenbekämpfung', in Norway (one of the areas these units were used, Balkans were another) this would be actions against different segments of the Home Front.

We have located complete aircraft listings for the units under SS control (for given dates) in the Bundesarchiv, and I do believe there will be an article on these units by one of my collegues in an forthcoming issue of Luftwaffe Verband.

From my recollection, they were mostly equipped with Fi 156's. I would also suppose ther would be some kind of reference to these units in the SS archives, but these have no interest to me really and I have not gone through them. The unit did report directly to SS Reichsführer.

Regards,
Andreas

Andreas
Aircraft were used in Poland as well and some partisan units claimed them downed. Unfortunatelly I have not found any sort of list.
Looking forward for an article.

A extensive article on this subject was published in the journal Luftwaffe Verband No. 39 2004.

Thank you everyone. Although the SS itself does not interest me, certain operations and operating areas do, especially Prague-Russin. I've seen various spellings of the latter, forgive me if mine is incorrect.

Regards,
Ed
