Hptm. Karl Michel, 3./JG 2

Does anybody have further informations about this pilot? I´m searching for any information about his loss at 09.09.1944 near Schotten (between Frankfurt and Kassel, Fw 190 A-8, WerkNr. 170 617). Are there any datas about the involved 8th USAAF-fighter units???

Regards, Heuser

The loss list for JG 2 says he was KIA in a battle with 6-10 P-47s. Both the 78th and 356th USAAF FGs made Fw 190 claims that day. The 356th was still flying P-47s. I am not sure about the 78th. Their web site seems to have them flying both types at that time

Thank you very much for your reply!
Today I had a very short meeting with a relative of Karl Michel. He tells me that Michel was shot down at landing. I know there was an airfield at Schotten, but I donīt have any further informations about it. Is it possible that parts of JG 2 were based on this airfield?

Best Regards,

Heuser

M. Holm's Board says the unit was based at Mezhausen at that time. The loss report says it happened 30km NE of Bad Nauheim.

Thank you, Schotten is 30 km NE of Bad Nauheim and 50 km NE of Merzhausen.
