T-Tommies of 236 sqn.
 

Hi

Can anybody varify what serial number that is the correct one for MB-T, NT850 or NT950. In Beaufighter at war it is given as NT850 and in Beaufighter in Action as NT950.
In Bristol Beaufigter from Airlife, Appendix 2 it seems that there never was a NT850, as the series started at NT888.

So can anybody sort out if NT850 is just a typing error.

Hi Nick

NT850 is 100% NOT a Beau serial. In fact this was a serial given to a cancelled Westland Welkin!

So if your choise is ONLY between these two (sic) Beaufighter numbers then NT950 is your serial!!

Air Britain serial list states that NT950 236 Sqn. hit by Flak and abandoned off the Dutch coast 3-10-44. HTH

Go on http://www.crashplace.de/ and research the losses for the 3rd October 1944, NT950 is listed there (with my sources).

By the way, the attack during which the NT950 was lost sank a German ship (actually a "Neubau", ie an unnammed and uncompleted hull being moved from a Dutch port to Germany) but I have no more details.
