2/2/1942 attacks on the Nore Command

I am trying to find out which Luftwaffe unit carried out the attack on February 2 1942 attacks on the Nore Command Grimsby and Yarmouth M/S and patrol trawlers were attacked on station by at least twenty planes, and Grimsby's Cape Spartel and Yarmouth's Cloughton Wyke were sunk.
I am helping a veteran who was with this flotilla at the time and witnessed the sinking of Cloughton Wyke. For many years he has wanted to find out what type of plane sunk the ship? He remembers it being a twin-engine bomber.
Can anyone help me with this or recommended how I can research this incident?

Formations from IX Fliegerkorps were in action against shipping on this day, the Germans claiming to have sunk 3 and damaging one more. KG 2 and II/KG 40 were involved; Oblt Ernst Eckert's Do 217 from 6/KG 40 was shot down by Plt Off Henderson of 19 Sqn 2 miles NE of Happisburgh Lightship at 1347 hrs

Nick, try PJ Foynes' excellent The Battle of the East Coast (1939-1945) privately published(1994) ISBN 0-9521555-2-4. If your library does not have a copy, try the author at 17 Cranmore Avenue, Osterley, Isleworth, Middlesex TW7 4QW

Nick: I have just had published 2 books on German anti-shipping ops in general (Sea Eagles 1 & 2); there is a recent book on German torpedo ops by Thiele
