Steamer Armeniya (sunk 7.11.41)
The passenger SS Armeniya was sunk in the Black Sea south of Yalta, on 7 November 1941 by German bombers. Of 5,000 people aboard (civilians refugees and soldiers from Sevastopol) all but 8 perished.
Which LW unit was responsible? Thanks in advance. Chris |

WiKi say, it was 1./KG 28

Re: Steamer Armeniya (sunk 7.11.41)
I have looked at page 86 of Eddie & Doug's book which refers to KG 26 and I cannot see any mention of any attack likewise the pages on KG 28. However, the only torpedo units in that location were 1./KG 28 and 6./KG 26 at that time.Harold Thiele's book doesn't add much apart from saying 6./KG 26 sank 20,000 tons of shipping Oct-Dec 41 and another source said it was bombs from 1./KG 26

Thanks.
However, was it torpedoed or just hit by bombs? |

That is the problem!

Re: Steamer Armeniya (sunk 7.11.41)
OKL in Lagebericht 8.11.41 wrote that 7.11.41 at 09:24 40 km S Jalta the German bomber had sunk a large troopship by 2 torpedoes. But the unit (KG26 or KG28) wasn't mentioned.
