RAF claims 04 september 1943
 
hi,

4 me109 of the 9/JG1 and 1 of the 8/JG1 were shot down by spitfires the 04 september 1943 in Dunkerque/St Omer area.
Horst Seeman was one of the pilot KIA in this dogfight. His body has been found some weeks ago in his a/c wreck has already announced.

what were the spitfire squadrons involved in this fight. Who claimed the me109s?

Salut JP,

As you know it was a very busy day.
One of the participated Wings was from Honchurch. W/C Crawford-Compton t/o with No.129 and 222 Sqn at 5.56pm for Ramrod S.31. At 6.29pm the Wing was attacked by 25 Bf 109s. There were claimed three destroyed or probably destroyed e/a too.
P/O Bradshaw of the 129 Sqn, F/O Smik and ? of 222 Sqn. In Mardyck-Audruicq area.

It's probably also worthwhile noting that New Zealander, Ray Hesselyn flying MH499 with 222 also claimed a 109G destroyed in this action just east of Audruicq.

Sorry Michal, I was relying on my memory (Fatal at my age!), Smik claimed 1-0-1, Hesselyn 1-0-0 and Tripe 0-0-1.

129 Squadron claims were by SL Gonay and FO Twomey who each claimed 0-0-1.

Bradshaw claimed earlier in the day on Ramrod S-30.
